Hello!
Rachel here, the woman behind the words (and the brackets (hope you’ve grown to think of them fondly by now)).
This blog began in 2017, as I started backpacking around Europe, as an outlet in which I could share all of my embarrassing encounters (with loved ones and complete strangers), reducing the space they took up in my mental chest of drawers. A bit like crisps in a bowl – you know, if you decant crisps into a bowl, the calories don’t count; if you publish your most cringeworthy moments online, you reclaim the power. The posts dwindled during Covid, then came to a complete standstill in early 2021. But as of autumn 2025, they’re back, baby. I’m embarrassing myself a little less frequently nowadays (can probably blame that on Brexit), but you never know. Let’s see what happens.
I plan to migrate to Substack soon, but for now, we’re here.
Hope you enjoy my ramblings.
With love,
Rachel
Rachel why have I not stumbled across this blog before??!! It is SO good. I am enjoying it in the same way as I used to enjoy reading Bridget Jones Diary in The Guardian before it became famous. Maybe this will become famous too. Maybe a film short at the Cannes Festival – an animation of your travels with a voiceover of your words – it’s brill. I am loving it. Liz xx
PS Sorry that I am clearly so behind the times. Will try to keep up in future!
